Denbigh will for the second time this season will be cursing themselves with yet another stoppage-time goal conceded against Mold.
Unlike back in August when Mold took maximum points on 94 minutes this time Denbigh were denied all three points when Aidan Farren netted following a constantly mistake to equal Owen Davies’ first half header.
It was a cruel blow in what was in reality a game of two halves which saw Denbigh rampant in the first half before the visitors knocked on the door throughout the second.
Dewi Llion named two changes to the side that beat Holywell Town a week previous as Luke Wilmot stepped in goal whilst Sam Duffy was deployed down the right.
Denbigh began well and within four minutes could have been ahead when Davies was set through one on one only for Joe Smith to thwart his effort. Mold responded almost immediately when an effort from range deflected out for a corner.
Whilst possession and territory favoured Denbigh there wasn’t much in the way of clear cut chances, with the next taking until the 24th minute when a great run from Ben Lockley down the middle of the park saw him feed it to Duffy, his cross from the flank almost fell to Brown who when about to pull the trigger on the penalty spot had a defender appear from nowhere to clear.
With 35 minutes played the opener finally came to the hosts who in reality deserved it. A good spell saw Keelan Williams float a cross in for Davies who directed his header into the bottom right corner.
Not content with just one Denbigh sought a second before the break and came remarkably close when Iwan Roberts forced a save at the near post only for Smith to palm away. From the resulting corner, the ball was half-cleared and Roberts thrashed a shot from the edge of the box against the foot of the post.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town 1-0 Mold Alexandra
The second half was short of clear-cut chances but Mold certainly came out a different side. However, the first chance of note came to Town as Brown looked to lob Smith from range but the keeper dropped back to palm it over the bar.
Mold maintained the pressure but Wilmot remained largely unchallenged, in the final few moments it looked like it was Denbigh who would possibly secure it when Roberts again down the left cut inside before firing across goal.
However, eventually, the chance Mold were so desperate for came. A cross was missed poorly allowing Farren free roam of the box before calmly dispatching.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time it was almost Deja Vu for Denbigh as Mold again went through only for Wilmot to make a superb save to save a point. Really though from a Denbigh perspective, it should have been all three.
Town are next in action next Friday with a trip to Bangor 1876.
