Denbigh returned to winning ways after a hard fought game against a spirited and competitive Llanrwst side with a goal in each half both scored by Ian Griffiths on his debut for the club.
Denbigh had the advantage of the elements in the first half and although having the majority of possession and attacking positions could not find a way through a well organised Llanrwst defence.
Stuart Vernon got around the back a few times but his usual final ball was not accurate as the Roosters weathered the early storm and with Leighton Griffiths getting more of the ball they set up a few attacks of their own, none which troubled young keeper Bryn Jones who handled very well throughout well abetted by Lee Mason and captain Russ Jones in front of him.
As the half went on Denbigh began to get a few sighters on goal and keeper Paul Roberts was called to action three times in a short period to block efforts from Ian Griffiths, Mark Roberts and a long range shot from Owain Roberts. Pressure began to mount and eventually just before half time, Ian Griffiths opened his and Denbigh’s account with a deft header from an accurate and pacey Owain Roberts cross.
Llanrwst needed to get back into the game early in the second half and although forcing a few corners, they didn’t really open up the home defence. Jenkins and Elliot worked hard up front but were too isolated and Denbigh started to control the game but needed the second goal to have a comfortable cushion.
Efforts came in from Sharples, Mark Roberts and Wilkinson which were dealt with but eventually Ian Griffiths added his second when the ball rebounded to him after good work from Vernon on the right. This gave impetus to the home team as they looked for a third goal and with the introduction of the fleet footed Duncan Midgely and Ian Evans to the attack they did push the Llanrwst side back but the closest they came to a goal was a shot from Sharples which was well saved by Roberts in the Llanrwst goal in the final moments. A good victory for the home side but they need to take their home form with them on their travels, starting with Nefyn next week.
