A failure to turn large amounts of possession especially in the second half into goals and Nefyn’s refusal to lie down resulted in a game which was not safe for the visitors until the final minutes. Nefyn who had not won in the league since the first game of the season were the quickest into their stride and took the lead within ten minutes, when a long ball out of defence caught the defence square and Llyr Gruffydd’s early cross was hammered home by Peter Griffiths from close range. Denbigh’s reply was quick as a deep Eilir Edwards cross from the left was headed home at the far post by Mark Roberts for the equaliser. Headers from Tom Sharples and Lee Mason from corners went close with Mason’s header hitting the top of the cross-bar, but Denbigh did not have to wait long before taking the lead as Roberts again scored with a crisp shot after being set up with a delicious through ball by Sharples. Denbigh certainly had the momentum and things got worse for the home side as their left back Ian Aikman was sent off rather harshly for a second bookable offence and just before the half time whistle Denbigh added their third goal. Sharples again played a lovely ball inside the full back for Eilir Edwards to race onto and his deep cross was headed home by Roberts again to register his first hat-trick of the season.
In the second half although Denbigh monopolised possession, they were very negligent in front of goal and chances were wasted and Nefyn to their credit counter-attacked efficiently. Some lazy defending by the visitors allowed Peter Griffiths to add a second goal from inside the six yard box to bring Nefyn back into the game but almost immediately Denbigh added a fourth. Excellent play by Kristain Pierce on the right as he beat two men in the box before laying the ball back for Sharples to hammer home, a deserved goal for his all round performance. Nefyn however were not finished and a misguided defensive header was seized upon and Rhodri Scott scored to give the home side some hope again. Denbigh regained the initiative in the last ten minutes forcing a number of corners but chances were missed in front of goal by some excellent blocks, saves and last ditch tackles by the Nefyn defence but eventually Duncan Midgley scored, his first goal for the club and made the game safe for the visitors by prodding home after an Ian Griffiths shot was parried by keeper Ellis to his path.
