Denbigh after conceding an early goal came back strongly to score two goals and win this enthralling game of different styles.

Caernarfon tended to build slowly from the back and keeping the ball better, while Denbigh were a lot more direct and counter attacked at pace, stretching the visitors defence.

The Cofis with caretaker manager Colin Saynor in charge for this game started well and monopolised possession with Ywain Gwynedd and Alex Jones very prominent in midfield. They did not allow the home team to get out of their half and after Jamie Whitmore had gone close, it was no surprise that they took the lead. Good work on the right allowed Llion Jones to overlap from right back and his near post cross was chested down and hit on the turn by Cai Jones to give Roberts in goal no chance.

Caernarfon continued in fine form but gradually the home side began to get a foothold in the game with Tom Sharples creating problems with his late runs into the box and Neil Perkins in the visitors goal made two excellent saves from the tall mid-fielder. Duncan Midgley had a header palmed away by Perkins and he produced another good save from Sharples as Denbigh built up the pressure. They had a good shout for a penalty when Perkins and Sharples clashed again but after thirty five minutes Denbigh got their just rewards when Midgley was upended in the box and Ceri James made no mistake from the spot.

The home side were now in the ascendancy and with Mark Roberts and Tom Povey combining well on the right and supplying crosses into the area but the visitors defence coped with Jack Jones reading the game well and there were no further goals before the half time whistle.

Caernarfon started the second half a lot sharper and had the home team pegged back with new signing Jay Gibbs in the thick of the action as was Whitmore but were punished after ten minutes. Owain Roberts who was in top form at the back played a long ball deep into the Caernarfon half to Midgley who headed on expertly for Ian Griffiths to race clear, rounding Perkins and giving the home side the lead.

The game swung to and fro with both teams having chances, Eilir Edwards cut inside from the left but his tame shot did not trouble Perkins and a deep cross from Gwynedd to the far post was met by Whitmore but Roberts in the home goal made a match winning save with his foot at the expense of a corner. Jack Jones almost equalised when his curled shot from the edge of the box hit the post but not to be outdone Sharples broke again but his pile driver from the edge of the box was hit straight at Perkins.

The pace of the game and the heavy pitch began to take it’s toll and Caernarfon were further punished when Whitmore received a straight red for kicking out at an opponent as Denbigh took control in the last ten minutes by running the clock down with Ian Griffiths working hard up front keeping the ball and putting the Caernarfon defence under pressure. The final whistle brought Denbigh another three points in what was an excellent game played in good spirit and a very good advertisement of Welsh Alliance football.
