The home team playing with a little breeze at their backs in the first half took control of the game from the kick off but the forwards took a bit of time to find their shooting boots and range. Shots from Mark Roberts, Tom Sharples and Ian Griffiths were high, wide and handsome before Duncan Midgley showed how it was done with two quick goals between the fifteenth and twentieth minute.

The first came after a good run by Kristian Pierce which resulted in an Ian Griffiths shot being blocked but Midgley reacted quickest to stab home the rebound from six yards. The second goal was a good near post header from an accurate Mark Roberts corner which was squeezed in between the full back and the post. The Wanderers response was spasmodic with Jason Sadler showing some nice touches up front but he lacked support and generally the Denbigh defence had an easy afternoon. Ceri James was bossing the game from midfield and from one of his through balls, Mark Roberts pressured the visitors full back James Phillips who’s attempted back pass bulged the net from fifteen yards giving keeper Roberts no chance. Just before half time, Denbigh added another as from Mark Roberts’s corner the ball bobbled about in the box before Tom Sharples hooked it in from eight yards to give the home team a comfortable lead.

The second half was generally one-way traffic with Denbigh controlling possession and territory but they were very wayward with their finishing and when they did find the target keeper Dylan Roberts made some outstanding saves. The home team were given a wake up call after an hour when keeper Gareth Roberts in attempting to clear a back pass hit the ball against striker Gavin Lloyd-Jones which rebounded into the net to give the visitors some hope. A neat move from a free kick between Kevin Hughes and Sadler opened up the home defence but the effort from Jamie Williams was well wide. Soon after Denbigh regained the four goal margin after good inter-passing between Midgley and Griffiths which resulted in Griffiths scoring with a powerful shot.

Things got worse for the visitors when Lloyd-Jones was sent off for something said to the referee but the home team did not make the extra man count and add to their goal tally. They had enough chances but the finishing was woeful with Griffiths, Midgley and James missing three one to ones chances against keeper Roberts and in the end they had to be satisfied with five goals when in fact they should have doubled their score.
