- Town breeze past Denbighshire rivals

Denbigh Town Reserves continued their pre-season campaign on Wednesday night with the 4-0 thrashing of Prestatyn.

Goals from Rhys Lloyd, Tom Salisbury, and a trialist secured the win as the tempo steps up ahead of the new season.

Denbigh were on it from the first minute with Lloyd set through on goal before lifting an effort just over the crossbar. The forward was involved early on as just seconds later another effort from the 17-year-old tested the visiting ‘keeper.

Despite the early pressure Prestatyn did cut out one chance, as a ball down the left was latched onto before being swept into the side netting of Alistair Macauley’s goal.

With 11 minutes on the clock Lloyd was involved again this time crossing from the left for a trialist to head home a well worked move. Just two minutes later Lloyd went from provider to goalscorer when he dispossed the goalkeeper who was stranded in no man’s land, before rolling it home in the simplest goal he’ll score all year.

In reality, Lloyd could have scored six on the night, after 17 minutes he managed to loft the ball over the bar following a scramble as Prestatyn struggled to handle the wave of attack. Captain Lewis Devine played a superb pass for him before the goalkeeper made a stop. Lloyd was set through again with 42 minutes on the clock after some outstanding work from Salisbury on the right to turn his marker inside out before threading a ball through, but the keeper was on hand to deny.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 2-0 Prestatyn Town

The rest was short lived for the visitors particularly where Lloyd was concerned. Two minutes into the second period he was brought down in the box, but he somehow managed to put the ball over the bar from the spot.

Moments later Tommy Hughes - the new vice-captain of the side - delivered a free-kick from the right and as Prestatyn failed to clear their lines the Trialist dragged an effort wide. Two minutes later the ball couldn’t be cleared again and Lloyd poked the ball onto the crossbar.

On the hour mark Town made it three when a corner was swept in by Lloyd before again the ball wasn’t dealt with, and Salisbury smashed it home from the middle of the box.

Prestatyn looked now to simply break their own deadlock but when through on goal a sensational diving challenge from Gruff Rogers ensured Town kept a clean sheet on the night.
As we entered the 90th minute Lloyd had the final say, his corner heading straight into the back of the net via a deflection.

A mature performance from Denbigh who move on to another friendly on Sunday, this time with Kinmel Bay Development at Midday.
