Buckley Town v Denbigh Town
Date: 05/08/2023
Kick-Off: 14:30
Location: The Globe, Buckley
Competition: Nathaniel MG Cup (Round Two)

Form

Town come into the game on the back of their JD Cymru North opener at Flint Town United last Saturday. Flint took the lead within two minutes with a goal from Harley Brindley-Peagram but Denbigh levelled through Tom Weir on his league debut. However, a second-half strike from Elliott Reeves proved to be the difference. Denbigh reached this stage a week previous after Mason Blackwell-Jones scored the only goal of the game to open his Town account on his own debut.

Buckley - also members of the JD Cymru North - began their league season with a trip to Chirk AAA last Friday night. Jake Roberts’ goal on 13 minutes proved to be the winner at Holyhead Road. They reached the second round with a 2-1 win over local rivals Mold Alexandra at the Globe with goals from Adam Smith and Connor Littler whilst goalkeeper Ryan Goldston saved a penalty.

The Opposition

Buckley are once again competing in the JD Cymru North having finished 8th in the league last season. They’ve got off to a good start with two wins from two against Chirk and Mold and manager Jason Aldcroft will look to continue that run.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first time the two sides have met since March 2019 when Buckley came to Central Park. Shaun Tinsley’s goal was the lone strike to find the net as the Bucks won 1-0. Denbigh beat Buckley twice already that season with our last trip to the Globe in December 2018 when Jordan Burrow and Pat Hinchcliffe netted in a 2-0 success.

Our last cup tie came three weeks earlier, when Burrow, Mark Roberts and Lewis Sirrell were on hand in a 3-1 win in the JD Welsh Cup Second Round.
