Ollie Williams26 Aug 2023 - 15:22

- Town head back to Chirk

Just 38 days will have passed since Denbigh’s last trip to Holyhead Road as Town return to Chirk AAA in league action.

Chirk AAA v Denbigh Town
Date: 28/08/2023
Kick-Off: 14:30
Location: Holyhead Road, Chirk
Competition: JD Cymru North

Form

Denbigh come into this one hoping to put an end to a poor run of form that’s seen them lose their last two matches. Last time out we played host to Holywell at Central Park where Jason Foulkes’ second-minute red card proved to be an omen for the evening. The Wellmen hit five before Jake Walker’s late consolation.

A week beforehand we travelled to Bangor 1876 where despite Crag Pritchard’s strike, Town fell to a 2-1 loss in Gwynedd. Our last victory came at home to Caersws with Dewi Llion’s side running out 4-1 winners. Denbigh’s last win on the road came against Chirk earlier this season.

Chirk will be bolstered by their first victory of the new campaign last time out, having seen off struggling Llanidloes Town at Holyhead Road. Goals from Adam Williams and Max McLaughlin secured the win. It followed three losses on the spin to lift Chirk up to 12th.

The Opposition

Sitting in 12th, Chirk will be looking to cement themselves in the JD Cymru North having begun their second season in the second tier. They stayed up on the final day of the season back in April at the expense of Conwy Borough. They exited the Nathaniel MG Cup at the hands of Denbigh in July.

Head-to-Head

You won’t need to look too far back for our last meeting, just 38 days separate the two last fixture and the next. Mason Blackwell-Jones’ strike was the difference in the first roun of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Our last league game against Chirk came over 20 years ago when both sides were competing in the Cymru Alliance during the 1997/98 season.

Our first meeting came back in 1892 in the Welsh Senior League, where Chirk recorded a 5-2 victory in the October in Chirk before Denbigh ran out 3-1 winners a month later.

Stat Pack

New signing Josh Lock could make his Denbigh Town debut.

Dan Parry-Jones could make his 30th league appearance for Denbigh.

Jake Walker needs one more goal for his 60th league goal for Town.
