The first fixture searched for back in July would surely have been this one. Now, one of the biggest events of the year is here as the Vale of Clwyd Derby is back.
Both sides are in need of a win to end 2024 on a high and there’s no better place to do it than at a packed Central Park.

Denbigh Town v Ruthin Town
Date: 26/12/2024
Kick-Off: 13:00
Location: Central Park
Competition: JD Cymru North
Form
Denbigh come into the derby on the back of a 2-1 loss at home to Buckley on Saturday. Town went down 2-0 with goals either side of the break before Sam Duffy grabbed a late lifeline on 96 minutes, but it wouldn’t be enough. It followed on from a win four days earlier away at Prestatyn Town where Duffy netted the opener. Prestatyn equaliser almost immediately before Nathan Brown grabbed the winner with five to play.
Ruthin are on a run of six defeats on the spin coming into this one and will be desperate to end that run. Last time out they faced Llandudno at their temproary home at Maes Tegid, being downed 2-0. In their three games in December they’ve conceded six goals and have failed to score. They’re last goal in the JD Cymru North came on November 2nd against Holywell.
Head-to-Head
This will be the 86th competitive meeting between the two sides with the first dating back all the way to 1905. The last meeting came on New Year’s Day with Ruthun running out the winners at Memorial Playing Fields. Our last meeting at Central Park came last Boxing Day with Denbigh winning 2-1 via a 94th minute Paul Fleming winner.
Stat Pack
Ben Lockley could make his 100th Denbigh Town appearance on Boxing Day.
Denbigh are looking to continue a seven year unbeaten run at home to Rutuin.
Nathan Brown requires two more goals in the JD Cymru North to equal the fifth highest scorer for the club in the second tier, joining Warren Duckett and Mark Roberts on 26. Two more goals would also take him to joint-7th all-time in Denbigh’s recorded history. It would equal Tom Mutton on 63 and beat Derry Morris on 62. Brown sits on 61 in all competitions.
