Denbigh Town v Colwyn Bay
Date: 13/09/2024
Kick-Off: 19:45
Location: Central Park
Competition: JD Cymru North

Form

Denbigh travelled to Flint Mountain last Friday and you’d be forgiven for thinking Town were down and out after 50 minutes. Denbigh were 4-1 down but rallied brilliantly to come back. Keelan Williams reduced the deficit in the first half before Owen Davies netted a brilliant header. Nathan Brown stepped up for a penalty two minutes after coming on to make it 4-3 before Davies converted from the spot on 88 minutes to draw 4-4. It was a pleasing response to back-to-back defeats to Gresford Athletic and Penrhyncoch.

Colwyn Bay have began life back in the JD Cymru North in excellent fashion sitting third in the table and on the back of six games unbeaten in the league. Last time out they took on Pernrhyncoch at Llanelian Road, winning convincingly 4-0. Before that they advanced via penalties in the WBS League Cup against Flint Mountain. The Seagulls are unbeaten away from home this season.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first league meeting between Denbigh Town and Colwyn Bay since May 1930. Both sides at the time competed in the Welsh National League Division One. At the time Town were known as Denbigh Juniors and the clash came at our previous home ground of Denbigh Hospital. The Bay ran out 3-0 winners. Earlier that season Denbigh travelled to Erias Park losing 6-0.

Denbigh’s last league win over Colwyn Bay came in February 1926 on home soil, with a 4-3 success. The two sides have been meeting since the 1880s whilst Denbigh’s first recorded cup win came in a St Asaph Challenge Cup Final in 1891 against Colwyn Bay, with two replays needed before a 3-2 win.

Stat Pack

Denbigh are looking to maintain their 100% win record at home this season, Colwyn Bay are looking to maintain their unbeaten away start.

Nathan Brown requires on more goal in the JD Cymru North to go outright sixth top scorer for the club in the second tier, and needs six more goals to break into the top five.
