- A look at our three senior sides

Denbigh Town’s three senior sides were all in action over the weekend with the Men’s First-Team and Ladies both in cup action whilst the Reserves continued in the league.

Here we take a look at how the three of them faired this weekend.

Cerrigydrudion 2-4 Denbigh Town (JD Welsh Cup First Round)

Dewi Llion’s First-Team made the trip to Cerrig on Saturday in what had all the hallmarks of a potential banana skin. The nerves were settled on 14 minutes when Matthew Worrall opened the scoring but Cerrig had a shock leveller before half-time when Tegid Williams’ header found the net. On 42 minutes Town were down to ten men when Ryan Kershaw was sent off for a late tackle.

After the restart Olly Hansen scored to retake the lead before substitute Nathan Brown added two more. Cai Davies replied late on to make it a nervy finish before Williams was dismissed for Cerrig and Town held on to reach the Second Round.

The first-team are next in action on Friday at home to Buckley in the JD Cymru North.

Denbigh Town Reserves 2-1 Holywell Development (FAW Reserve League North)

The only match at Central Park this weekend saw Liam Nash’s reserves grab their first win of the season and maintain their unbeaten start. The Friday night fixture saw Holywell take the lead via Marc Davies on seven minutes before James Thomas struck an equaliser. A minute before half-time Harry Lea headed home the winner in a nervy affair.

The Reserves now take a break having received a bye in the FAW Reserve League North Cup with Connah’s Quay pulling out, and will take on Chirk AAA on Saturday, September 30th in the league.

Llangefni Town Ladies 5-2 Denbigh Town Ladies (FAW Women’s Cup)

The final game of the weekend was played on Angelsey as Ellen Lawson’s Denbigh Ladies travelled to Llangefni in the FAW Women’s Cup.

Town found themselves 2-0 down after 24 minutes before pulling a goal back through Sophie Bancroft. Despite the fightback Llangefni extended the lead to 4-1 in the second half before Charlotte Morris set-up a grandstand finish, but a goal just before the end for the home side saw it end in defeat and an exit from the competition.

The Ladies are next in action next Sunday as we play host to Welshpool Town Ladies in the North Wales Women’s Football League East, kicking off at 14:00.
