Denbigh Town Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Phil Hudson to the clubs' first-team management.
Hudson’s most recent role came as manager of Ruthin Town before departing the club via mutual consent in March. He's had success at every club that he's managed, delivering silverware at Ruthin and Brymbo as well as with Ashville and Woodchurch Athletic in England.
Hudson now heads north up the Clwyd to join Denbigh and to supplement Dewi Llion’s management team.
“Firstly I want to say how happy I am to join such an established club with a great fanbase” said Hudson.
“Once Dewi reached out to me about coming in and working alongside him I was excited, after a few more discussions and hearing the clubs plans and long term vision I was keen to be a part of that.
“I am no stranger to this league and will look to utilize what I have learnt over the years to help the club improve on last year's fantastic debut season back in Tier 2 of Welsh football.
“Pre season can't come quick enough now and I look forward to meeting everyone associated with the club”
Manager Dewi Llion added “I’m really happy to add Phil to the management team at Denbigh and really look forward to working with him.
“He’s an experienced manager who will bring in fresh ideas, his commitment to developing young players whilst implementing an attractive style of play and team identity aligns perfectly with what we’re looking to achieve”.
Hudson’s footballing journey began with the likes of West Kirby, New Brighton, Woodchurch Athletic and Ashville on the Wirrall, before taking his first steps into management with the latter two in the 2010s.
He delivered five trophies in four years during his tenure in the West Cheshire Leagues before crossing the border to take on the role of manager at Brymbo. He led the Steelmen from the fourth tier to losing out on promotion to the Cymru North on goal difference during his three years at the Crick. He has also coached young players with Elite Player Development in Merseyside alongside ex-professionals.
In 2020 he was appointed manager of Ruthin Town where he spent just short of four years, he led them to back-to-back top five finishes in the JD Cymru North as well as delivering the NEWFA Cup in 2022.
Hudson took charge of his first Vale of Clwyd Derby on Boxing Day 2023, losing out 2-1 to Denbigh at Central Park before winning the reverse fixture on New Year's Day. He moved on via mutual consent in March 2024 and now heads to LL16.
Welcome to Denbigh, Phil!
