They say the first team and reserves should always mirror each other on the pitch, this week that had never been more evident.
Town left Mold with nothing to show for their efforts after a stoppage time winner less than 48 hours after the second string did the exact same at Alyn Park.
Despite Owen Davies giving Town the lead in the first half Denbigh failed to capitalise and strikes from Owen Cordiner and a 93rd minute winner from Seydou Bamba left the visitors with nothing.
Dewi Llion named three debutants as goalkeeper Luke Wilmot along with Keelan Williams and Sam Duffy made the XI. Meanwhile Morgan Fricker made the squad for the first time and Sion Jones returned from suspension.
In reality Denbigh were dominant, but the opening exchanges offered little in the way of chances. That was until the 21st minute when Max Cooke won the ball in the middle of the park, it fell to Davies who teed up Nathan Brown out wide before his return cross found Davies but he couldn’t garner enough purchase.
Just after the half hour mark Denbigh thought they had the lead as Paul Fleming squeezed a ball to Duffy, his effort on the right of the box was saved before Davies hit home the rebound, but the flag was raised.
Getting closer and closer Town felt the opener was inevitable, it almost came on 37 minutes when Duffy raced through, attempted to round the ‘keeper who got a touch and the ball fired out off the forwards shin.
They wouldn’t have to wait long for the next opportunity however, as with five minutes of the half to play Brown fed the ball down the left of the box for Davies to latch on to and smash home into the bottom corner.
Davies almost had a second two minutes before the break he jinked in the box before turning and firing his shot but the goalkeeper did well to deny.
Half-Time: Mold Alexandra 0-1 Denbigh Town
It was more of the same in the second half as Brown was able to test the ‘keeper less than two minutes into he restart. Again he linked up well with Davies but the curling effort from range didn’t have the force needed.
Debutant Williams was finding more and more joy down the flank and almost marked his first game with a goal when he sent a shot from the right across the face of goal. A minute later he popped up again from the same spot but this time the Mold custodian stopped it, Brown picked up a he loose ball but curled the shot wide of the far post.
Calum Butler and Williams were next in line for a pop at goal both of which narrowly missed the target in a game that felt inevitable that Denbigh would land a second.
That being said on 68 minutes Town switched off, a good run down the right saw Mold advance before Cordiner bundled the ball home to level for the home side who had up to that point rarely threatened.
A deep free kick for the home side saw headed towards goal forcing Wilmot to make a good save before Matt Lewis turned it in from an offside position.
The game now appeared to go either way, with 78 minutes on the clock more good work from Denbigh saw the ball fall to Brown in the box but he could only lift it over from close range.
Mold substitute Bamba grew into the game and was let loose down the right before forcing Wilmot into a brilliant stop.
Denbigh almost had it on 86 minutes when substitute Harrison Bellis did well on the left to bring the ball inside and lay it to Williams but the ball flashed past the post. Bellis was involved again a minute later when he received the ball with his back to goal and had his effort blocked before it fell to Davies, his thunderous shot effort was tipped over by the keeper.
into stoppage time and Mold threw themselves forward and with Denbigh camped in their own box a loose ball was poked home by Bamba to provide a crushing blow.
Town are next in action as we return home on Friday at home to early league leaders Caersws.
