Denbigh Town are up and running for the new campaign as Dewi Llion’s side picked up their first win of the season.
Sam Duffy netted on his home debut before skipper Paul Fleming added a second whilst returning goalkeeper Aaron Jones kept his first clean sheet of the new campaign.
Duffy, along with Keelan Williams, Iwan Roberts and Calum Butler all made their home debuts whilst goalkeeper Jones returned to the side.
Town opened proceedings on the front foot with the first chance coming within three minutes. Owen Davies did well to nudge his way into the box before laying the ball to Roberts, and his effort deflected wide for a corner.
Within the opening quarter of an hour Denbigh had a well deserved lead. This time it was Roberts who rolled the ball to Duffy on the right of the box, he got the ball out of his feet before slamming it into the bottom corner. A fitting introduction to the home support.
Four minutes later it was almost two when Duffy turned provider for Nathan Brown who’s unorthodox effort was superbly saved by Caersws keeper Steffan Jones.
Just before the half hour mark the visitors had their first effort of the game, as Craig Harris made progress down the middle before firing inches wide of the far post. Denbigh responded immediately carving out a chance of their own but Owen Davies who picked up a loose ball before making inroads into the box could only fire over.
Two more chances fell to Town before the break, the first coming from a Williams low cross from the right that Davies ran on to but couldn’t find the target. The second came as Roberts fed it to Brown from the left but the latter couldn’t find the target with a curling effort.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town 2-0 Caersws
It was more of the same in the second half with Denbigh coming close within five minutes. Brown jinked down the left before cutting inside and warping the ball just wide of the far post.
On 55 minutes Town were given a glorious chance at a second when a cross into the box struck a Caersws hand and the referee pointed to the spot. Davies stepped up but the penalty was saved well.
Not deterred, Denbigh continued to turn the screw and won a free-kick 30-yards out, Brown stepped up and crashed the ball against the left post before it trickled across goal and away.
Finally, the deserved lead was doubled. Brown’s cross from the left found Fleming who crashed through a sea of bodies to bundle home.
It was now or never for the visitors and their best chance came when a ball from the left flank was latched on to by Sam Phillips, but Jones made a brilliant stop to deny.
Davies, frustrated all evening had a chance to put it to bed but again was unable to find the target one on one.
Denbigh saw the game out well and picked up their first points of the campaign.
