- Town second best against the Bay

Denbigh Town suffered their first home defeat of the season on Friday night as Colwyn Bay hit four at Central Park.

The visitors struck an early lead via Tom Creamer before Keelan Williams hit a superb leveller, but Craig Lindfield struck twice to take a 3-1 lead into the break. The Bay added to their lead via substitute Dan Atkins before Sam Duffy netted a stoppage-time consolation for Town.

Dewi Llion reintroduced Iwan Roberts and Nathan Brown to the XI whilst Harrison Bellis returned to the squad.

It took just four minutes for the visitors to take the lead as Aaron Jones made a superb initial save before Creamer hammered home a rebound from close range.

Despite the early pressure Town were still dangerous going forward, Williams made great strides down the left channel before striking, it thuded against Owen Davies who knew nothing about it, but fell nicely to Williams once more who swept the ball into the back of the net from outside the box.

Though Denbigh hit back within eight minutes of going behind Colwyn Bay continued their good start and on 19 minutes retook the lead, as Lindfield grabbed his first with diving header following a cross from the left.

Lindfield almost had his second on the half-hour mark when another cross was met by the forward but this time it was headed over six yards out. Denbigh went up the other end through Williams who fed it to Davies, he was pushed wide before his effort was blocked for a corner.

Goalkeeper Aaron Jones was kept busy to see out the half, first the visitors broke forward and Creamer had a go in the box but the Town keeper made a superb stop. From the resulting corner, Lindfield’s swiping volley was tipped over brilliantly.

However, a corner for Colwyn Bay was half-cleared by Denbigh two minutes before the break and returned to the box where Lindfield’s looping header found the net, despite the protestation of those in red who felt the flag should have been raised.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 1-3 Colwyn Bay

Three minutes into the restart and the Bay almost had their fourth when Lloyd Marsh-Hughes run through and drag an effort wide. Denbigh also looked dangerous with thunderous efforts from Paul Fleming and Iwan Roberts blocked on the edge of the box a minute lster.

Denbigh had a half chance on 64 minutes when a Brown free-kick found Fleming at the back post, but with the ball at an awkward height he couldn’t steer a volley on target on the right of the box.

Beginning to turn the screw, Denbigh had some hope of mounting yet another comeback, as Brown had an effort in the middle of the box brilliantly saved by the keeper. On 71 minutes Brown came close again when his free-kick from 30-yards out looked destined for the bottom corner but against the keeper denied.

Into the final fifteen minutes, Denbigh were dealt a hammer blow. Neat work through the third from Colwyn Bay saw a ball laid across the box and substitute Dan Atkins was able to tap home the fourth to wrap it up.

Denbigh to their credit didn’t give up, and Sam Duffy intercepted a sloppy pass out from the back to wrap the ball into the bottom left corner in stoppage time.

Denbigh now have two weeks before returning to action with a trip to Holywell Town.
