- Town lose out at Clappers Lane

Denbigh Town Reserves suffered their first defeat since Liam Nash’s return on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 loss at Gresford.

Four second-half goals from Rob Reynolds secured the win for Gresford as Town were unable to leave with a point.

Town had Harry Lockley come into the side for the afternoon whilst Tom Salisbury returned to the starting XI after a brilliant substitute appearance a week previous.

The first real chance of the game for Denbigh came on 12 minutes when Ossian Jones was played in over the top only for the ball to bounce awkwardly as his effort lifted over the bar.

Seven minutes later Salisbury was fouled on the edge of the box and Lockley stepped up for the free-kick, but his shot was saved well by the Colliers custodian.

Despite the early chances neither side found a way to truly test the opposite keeper as they went into the break goalless.

Half-Time: Gresford Athletic 0-0 Denbigh Town

Nine minutes into the second half and the game well and truly had it’s first real incident. Goalkeeper Rory Wynne saw the ball out of play before shoving a forward off him at the byline, the attacker jumped to the ground and the referee, to the surprise of everyone, pointed to the spot. Reynolds converted and Gresford had the lead.

Gresford put Town under pressure with a slew of long balls which Town covered well and Wynne commanded his area well. Denbigh were chasing a leveller and had efforts from Callum Foster miss the target, before eventually the game got away from Town.

The home side grabbed their second and third within a minute to stun Denbigh and put the game to bed with 12 minutes to play as Denbigh’s defence completely switched off in a minute of madness.

With two to play Reynolds nabbed his fourth with a header from a corner to add the cherry on top of a superb second half performance.

Town made some changes including the addition of Tomos Jones late on for his senior debut, but taste defeat under Nash for the first time.

They next head to St Asaph City on October 26th at Roe Plas Meadow.

Denbigh Town: Wynne, I.Jones, Edwards, A.Jones, Lockley, Fricker, J.Jones, Frith, Salisbury, O.Jones, Foster
