- Town take the bragging rights

Denbigh Town Reserves claimed three points and the bragging rights in a derby day victory over St Asaph.

Goals from Morgan Fricker, Ianto Jones, Joe Mead and Serhad Kanli were enough in a superb win for Denbigh whilst St Asaph pulled one back late on.

Liam Nash named a strong side that included Tom Salisbury just 16 hours removed from scoring for the first team against Llandudno at Central Park. Meanwhile Kanli and Mead returned to the squad alongside Gabriel Hinchcliffe.

Town started well and within six minutes took the lead when a ball dropped to Fricker 25-yards out who rifled home a half volley into the bottom corner, his fourth of the campaign and best so far.

Ten minutes later Denbigh doubled their advantage when a corner from Ossian Jones was met with force by Ianto Jones who’s bullet header left the Saints keeper with no chance. A superb effort from Jones who nets his first senior goal.

St Asaph’s first chance came when Paris Gray made a run through the middle before drifting to the left of the box, his cross found Charlie Weaver but his effort sailed over the bar.

Just before the break Town could and should have been three to the good but Cai Frith’s cross landed on the head of Callum Foster at the back post, but somehow the Saints stopper pulled off a brilliant save.

Half-Time: St Asaph City 0-2 Denbigh Town

After the break Denbigh continued their fine start but the game struggled in terms of any clear cut chances. A change was needed and Nash made a double switch adding Kanli and Mead and within 30 seconds it paid dividends. Kanli threaded a ball through to Mead who took a touch and slammed it home. Super subs, indeed.

The clash was well and truly put to bed with 14 left to play when Kanli, not satisfied with just an assist, raced the goalkeeper to a loose ball before winning it and rolling home into an empty net for his fourth of the campaign.

One disappointment for Denbigh would have been the lack of a clean sheet though. Despite a confident and assured performance from Rory Wynne and centre-back pairing of Rhodri Edwards and Aled Jones, Town came unstuck at a corner when Jack Jones bundled the ball home.

Denbigh now move on to face Airbus next weekend at the Airfield in a battle between 5th and 6th.

Denbigh Town: Wynne, Devine, Edwards, A.Jones, I.Jones, Hinchcliffe, Fricker, Frith, Salisbury, O.Jones, Foster

Subs: Roberts, Mead, Luke, J.Jones, Kanli
