The Reserves unbeaten run of three months came to a disappointing end at Colwyn Bay. In a week that saw the Denbigh go top of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Reserves League after a win over the leaders Porthmadog, they went into the Colwyn Bay game in good form and looking to extend their lead at the top .
It was the Seagulls who got off to the brighter start with Hari Gwilym scoring on 14 minutes. Denbigh responded after 28 minutes with Andy Thomas knocking in the equaliser and the teams went in at half time 1-1
The second half saw Colwyn Bay put the Denbigh defence under pressure from the start with a Hari Gwilym shot bringing out a great diving save from Dafydd Evans. A minute later Gwilym had his second and Colwyn Bay had an early second half league.
The impressive Gwilym thought he had scored his hat trick after 57 minutes but he was adjudged to be offside and the goal disallowed. Four minutes later he did get his third after a through ball was played to him and he coolly slotted the ball home and the Bay had a 3-1 lead.
Denbigh manager Nick Hailes made changes on 75 minutes with Sam Lewis and Owen Heath coming on for Josh Jones and Jack James. Within five minutes it was Heath (see photo) on the score sheet and Denbigh looked to get the equaliser but it never came.
To compound a difficult day, Denbigh ended the game with 10 men after Matty Blake received his second yellow card in the last minute .
Nick Hailes said after the game " This was a tough defeat to take. We had chances which we should have converted whereas Colwyn Bay took their chances and got the three points. We need to pull our socks up for next week's game at Penmaenmawr Phoenix"
